Georgian President Georgy Margvelashvili has made his first visit to Azerbaijan today and had a closed-door meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev. The meeting was followed by expanded talks with delegations joining them.

The main topic of the regional conference held today in the Georgian region of Kakheti were the advantages and opportunities of territorial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. The conference's theme is "The way to strengthen territorial cooperation of the Eastern Partnership countries: the program of territorial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia." Common problems of economic and social development of the border areas of the two countries have been in the focus of discussion.
Vladimir Yevseyev, Director of the Center for Socio-Political Studies, said that the Vilnius summit of November 28-29 will be a kind of an experiment for the Eastern Partnership to counterbalance Russia. Ukraine will be the only object of the experiment, he predicts. The expert added that any active trend towards the EU will only worsen relations with Russia.

The Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of GUAM was held today during the 68th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
